Our workshops include local, national and international visiting tutors on hand to teach specific and unique skills.

Our vast arrange of workshops include hand sewing projects such as Sashiko, Boro and Felt Embroidery or machined Art Quilts, Pixelated Quilts, Laura Heine technique, Judy Niemeyer technique, Bag Making and Confetti Work and Freemotion for beginners and advanced.

AMAZING 3 International quilt artists are heading to Mildura in 2020 to teach at Lesley Mays. These artists are very well known accomplished award winning artists and are teaching at only a few places in Australia, so we are the winners here.

2019 Workshop List – fabulous workshops this year - book in early to get a place!

Term 1

Friday Feb 22nd 6-8pm – Trunk Show Prior to the class we will be having a trunk show with Caroline. Drinks and nibbles provided, come along and meet Caroline and see her fabulous work. Cost is $10, all welcome.

February 23rd and 24th – Caroline Sharkey – Little Blue Birdie. This is an art quilt wall hanging – fully booked but place your name on the waitlist if you would like to join in.

This class has been completed but look at other options, plus Caroline is returning in 2020. EOI’s open now.

March 9th and 10th – Sue Roper [NZ] – Sue is the designer of the little travel needle kit we have been selling in the shop. This 2 day class is a fabric collage wall hanging that you will love. Call us to see the pattern options for this class, cost $200 plus pattern.

March 11th – Sue Roper is still with us and will teach a wool felt embroidered panel than you can turn in to a wall hanging or cushion or a Notions Folder (see samples instore now) cost $100 plus kit

30th and 31st March – Broken Daisies – placemats -a new Judy Neimeyer class taught by our registered tutor Helen Gervasoni. Sample in store, this is a great class for beginners to JN technique or a refresher who completed the Compass Rose and would like to extend their skills

Term 2

April 6th – Felt discovery class – start your journey with wool felt or expand the skills you learned in the felt flowers bag class. This class with Mandy will start with a felt satchel suitable for a mini iPad, Kindle or your travel documents. Satchel and felt provided. Cost $100. 9am–12noon

April 28th – week 1 of Ruler Work – a new concept in quilting taught in house. You will need a special foot that is specific to your machine and one template for this class. We will organise these for you if required. You will learn to set up your machine for this technique and learn lots of tips. Cost $100

Saturday May 11th –Introduction to Free Motion Quilting with Jill – this class is for absolute beginners!!! A morning with Jill who will go through the basics of FMQ, it isn’t so scary you know? 9am–12noon, cost $50.00

May 5th – week 2 of Ruler Work – follows on from the previous class where your skills will be extended to make a cushion top, cost for 2 days $100

May 26th – Introduction to Boro –Janet Pietsch -this popular class is back by request, a great day of hand sewing and fun. You will make an A4 piece of Boro that can be turned in to a purse or used as an insert in a bag or cushion. Cost $110 includes fabric kit

June 2nd – Boro Design Class – Janet Pietsch – an extension for those that have completed the introductory class where you will extend your stitching skills to include circles and other shapes. Again you will make an A4 piece of work that you can use as in week one. Cost $110 includes a fabric kit.

June 15th and 16th – Dream Big Panel – Helen G and Mandy – many of you have seen the large blue flower panel that has been machine embroidered using different designs in each petal/area. It is just stunning. Achievable to those with some free motion quilting experience.

Term 3

July 28th – Christmas in July – Jill – Come for a fun Sunday of easy sewing, lunch included. You will get lots of Christmas ideas. Kit included, cost $125.

September 1st and 8th – Sue Roeszler – Bag making –a new class to the shop which we believe will be very popular. Sue is a very experienced bag maker who will guide through the special techniques required for this skill. Two Sundays, cost TBA

September 13th Raylene Richardson Trunk Show – a great opportunity to see work produced by another talented teacher to inspire you and encourage you to be brave enough to make a unique piece yourself. Drinks and nibbles provided. Cost is $10 all welcome.

September 14th and 15th – Raylene Richardson – Tequila Sunrise – a return tutor offering her unique take on appliqué with her free flowing and highly embellished designs guaranteeing everyone in the class will have a different looking project to take home.

Cost is $275

Term 4

October 6th – Panel Play – Mandy – in this class you will cut up a panel and rejoin staggered with a contrast sashing. Back by popular demand. Sunday, cost $100.

October 26th and 27th – Fabric Mosaic Portraits – Robyn Taylor – have you seen the portraits in the shop? A great weekend which we all enjoyed when Robyn came here before. Several students are re-doing this class, many made their works for Christmas presents. Cost is $300 includes photo mosaic from your photo and fabric pack.

Nov 17th and Dec 1st – Advanced Judy Niemeyer Class – Helen Gervasoni. Details to be advised.

Workshop conditions

  • Bookings essential with non refundable deposits paid to hold your place
  • Balance paid by due date listed on each class sheet
  • Visitors including children are not catered for in classes
  • Please ensure your sewing machine is in good working order and that you have all requirements on the class list [or discuss this with shop staff]
  • Remember your lunch – we have refrigeration and microwave facilities available. Morning/afternoon teas will be provided. Please advise if you have any dietary requirements
  • All full day classes will run from 9.30 – 3.30; please arrive about 9.00am so you are ready for class to start at 9.30am.
