Practice your craft or learn something new


Our classes are run three times weekly and are an open learning setup covering all aspects of quilting, students can work to complete an existing project or start something new and exciting.

Our teachers will guide you through your project in your own time, all skill levels are catered for in a very friendly environment and delicious afternoon tea is included.

We find participants benefit from our open learning style and love being able to bounce ideas and techniques off each other, our lessons have created a community of sewers alike.

BYO machine pins needles and scissors. We can set a project for you or you can bring your own.

Class Session Times:

3x Classes Per Week

Tuesday: 6pm – 9pm

Wednesday: 1pm – 4pm

Saturday: 10am – 4pm

2020 Class List – fabulous classes this year - book in early to get a place

  • Bookings essential with non-refundable deposits paid to hold your place
  • Balance paid by due date
  • Visitors, including children, are not catered for in classes
  • Please ensure your sewing machine is in good working order and that you have all requirements on the class list [or discuss this with shop staff]. Always bring your machine manual to class
  • Remember your lunch – we have refrigeration and microwave facilities available. Morning/afternoon teas will be provided. Please advise if you have any dietary requirements. Note some classes include lunch, this will be stated on your class information
  • All full day classes will run from 9.30 – 3.30; please arrive about 9.00am so you are ready for class to start at 9.30am.

Our class list is so extensive we don’t have room for many photos in it.
However most will be on our Facebook page or if you would like a picture of any of the classes emailed to you please let us know.

Each Wednesday and Saturday from 1.00 – 4.00pm [with the exception of scheduled classes listed] we have sit and sew classes with help plus delicious afternoon teas. Work on any project, bookings not required, cost $25 per session.

You can always layby a class by paying the required deposit then progress payments to suit your need. Final payments must be made one month prior to class date.

Term 1

Saturday Feb 1st – 1.00pm – 4.00pm – Something New – this year we are starting to
inspire and educate our customers with a Technique and Show & Tell afternoon. Will be run in conjunction with selected Saturday and Wednesday S&S. You will learn a new technique then while we have afternoon tea we will show you some new arrivals in the shop [and what you do with them!!]. Cost is $25 as per S&S afternoons and will be repeated…….

Wednesday 5 th Feb 1.00pm – 4.00pm
Ladies that wish to simply continue with normal Sit & Sew on these Saturdays or Wednesdays are very welcome to do this and we will have someone with you for
assistance. The techniques from the Saturday will be repeated.

Saturday Feb 15th – 9.30am – 12 noon – Introduction to Free Motion Quilting – this class is for absolute beginners!!! A morning where you will go through the basics of free motion quilting, a great start to this skill. You will need a sewing machine with free motion capability plus a free motion foot. We can help you sort this out. Cost $50.00

March 5th – 8th – we welcome our first international tutor for 2020, Sandra Mollon. Her class is a four day spectacular, which is fully booked but we will take
names on our waitlist.

Term 2

Sat April 18 th , 9.30am – 12 noon, Introduction to Ruler Work – a new concept in quilting taught here at Lesley Mays. You will need a special foot that is specific to your machine and one template for the class. Class fee $50 plus foot and ruler if required. This will followed by a second class later in the year if there is enough interest. Sat May 2 nd 10am – 12 noon – Pattern Drafter, a brand new event for Mildura. Suitable for all sewers interested in making their own and /or children’s clothes. The format is a demonstration of the Pattern Drafter system by the creator Maria Boncaldo, cost is $10 includes morning tea and you will go in the draw for a special purchase offer. Sun 24th and 31st May [2 Sundays] – Introduction to Judy Neimeyer technique. Choice of two projects – Broken Daisies [4 placemats] or a wall hanging One [a single leaf pattern]. Taught by our registered tutor Helen Gervasoni this is a great class for beginners to JN technique or a refresher with a different pattern. Samples in store. Cost is $200 includes pattern. Sat 13 th and Sun 14 th June – Sue Roeszler – Bag making –a new class to the shop which we believe will be very popular. Sue is a very experienced bag maker who will guide through the special techniques required for this skill. Choose your own fabric, two days, cost $200 includes pattern. Term 3

Sat 18th July – Undulations – Bargello with a difference, use a jelly roll plus border fabric to create this wall hanging or table topper. Sample in store, Cost is $115 includes pattern book which has lots of extra patterns. Pre class preparation is required so book early please.

Sat Aug 8 th Boro Boro Boro – with our tutor Janet Pietsch. A great day learning, or extending, your knowledge of the Japanese Boro technique. You will make an A4 size piece of Boro that can be made in to a bag or other project, ideas provided. Cost $110 includes fabric kit.

Sat 22 and Sun 23 rd August – our second international tutor Lorraine Turner is in store for a wonderful weekend of art quilting. Limited places available, call us for details if you are interested.

Saturday Sept 5th – Exploring Felt with Mandy – join this class to start a journey with wool felt. You will make a felt satchel suitable for a mini iPad, Kindle or your travel documents. Back by popular demand, cost $115.

Term 4

October 15th – 18 th Sophie Standing – our third international tutor. We have samples of Sophie’s class work in store, a fabulous tutor, her class is fully booked but we do have a waitlist so please contact us if you are interested.

Wednesday Nov 4th – Melbourne Cup Special 12.00-4.00pm Chicken and Champagne Lunch along with a small mystery project. $50.00. A fun girls day out!!!
